WATER SYSTEMS

As San Diego is in the midst of an extreme water crisis, one of the main objectives of this project is water autonomy. We achieved this by:

    • 100% of rainwater that falls on the roof and the site is collected in:

        • (5) 10,000 gallon rainwater storage tanks

        • (4) 10,000 gallon greywater and stormwater storage tanks

    • Rainwater is used to supply all indoor potable and nonpotable water.

    • Greywater is used for irrigation and fire suppression.

    • This is the 1st permit in San Diego County for 100% of potable water to be supplied by filtered rainwater

    • This is the 1st permit in San Diego County for blackwater to be filtered and used onsite. It is directed through two filtration tanks and irrigates the food forest.

    • Low-flow plumbing fixtures and dual-flush toilets for indoor water savings.

    • Drought tolerant and native plant species for minimizing irrigation requirements.

FIRE RESISTANCE

Casa Águila is located in a wildfire-prone area and replaces a home that burnt down in the 2007 Witch Creek Fires. The homeowners, architect, and builders made fire-resistance a top priority incorporated into the architecture and material selection. Some of these measures include triple glazed “bullet proof” glass in the doors and windows and 16″ double stud wall assemblies that allow for R-56 blown-in cellulose insulation. CERTIFICATIONS

We value the natural world and want future generations to be able to experience the same beauty that we have available to us. That’s why all of the homes we build comply with one or more of the following green rating systems. Our homes are meant to increase the quality of life of its current occupants, and of generations to come.

LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (LEED):

An ecology-oriented building certification program run under the US Green Building Council.

DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY CHALLENGE HOME:

A standard which requires high performance homes to be so energy efficient that a renewable energy system can offset all or most of its annual energy consumption.
